Fall 2022 Event: The Homemaker’s Collective (2nd Annual!) (NOW CLOSED!)

Oh my GOODNESS, I am SO excited to be able to announce The Homemaker’s Collective is returning for a 2022 season. It’s officially been decided to make this an annual collective, and we are gearing up for our 2nd one! Join us!

The Homemaker’s Collective is a FREE series of various masterclasses and workshops running this September through November, for ANY woman interested in acquiring these vital skills all women are called to be equipped with.

Titus 2:5 tells us that we are “to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to [our] husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.” The Homemakers Collective classes will seek to equip us as wives and mothers to be confident in our homemaking and keeping our home. It is called “The Homemakers Collective” because as women, I firmly believe God has called us all to be homemakers. Even single women can (and should!) make and keep their home and acquire these skills. This doesn’t mean that we cannot have other passions, but that is not what God calls our focus to be. He calls for our ministry to be our husbands, children, and family. Simply put, homemakers are in charge of managing their homes. It is not an oppressed, but rather a highly privileged role, in my opinion that I am proud to have, and hope to encourage other women to feel the same.

Each workshop and skill will be led by a volunteer homemaker with a niche and passion for the selected class topic. Donations are always a great way to show appreciation to each of the women sacrificing their time and skills to teach the class, as each skill taught will be completely free to attend and participate.

Be on the lookout to register for each class as they are announced in more detail! Spots will be limited and WILL fill up quickly! Can’t wait to see you amazing women there!!

Revival Women’s: The Story Behind the Ministry

“Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.’ Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will bring you into the land of Israel” (Ezekiel 37:11-12 [ESV]).

I have a confession. One thing I have always sought after and desired was true connection, community, and friendship. I am also very introverted and struggle with social anxiety. Because of the latter, it has always been a challenge for me to create the connections that I desire. This has left me feeling lonely, isolated, and overwhelmed. It also has led me to forming friendships with people that may have been charismatic and energetic, but not always godly people. And when I became convicted in my walk, I became even more lonely because I felt as if I had lost what little friends I did have. And I did not intend to lose any friends, but that is exactly what happened. No friendship breakups I experienced during this transition were really dramatic or very lively, but they definitely happened. And they all hurt. I felt like I had lost pretty much all of my friends, and the ones I didn’t lose, I felt were no longer close to me. Then I became a mother. And I got even more lonely. And I felt even more isolated.

I was tired of feeling lonely and isolated. So I began to seek out women’s groups that were both locally and online, but I struggled to find my place in them. The biggest reasons were because of the theological teachings- or lack thereof. And I did not feel comfortable in a culture of women who complain about their husbands, consider their children burdens to bear, drink boatloads of wine and call it “mom juice”, and promote things like idolatry, feminism, materialism, idleness, and vanity. Rather, I boldly and fully embrace biblical femininity, motherhood, the nuclear family dynamic, and plenty of other things that are counter-cultural, being that my life is approached from a biblical worldview.

Because of my challenge to find a biblical community where I felt fully welcomed and aligned, I have prayerfully been led to creating this space where women can come together and find community with each other, reviving our dry bones through God’s goodness and truth. Revival Women’s is a community that seeks to encourage, equip, and edify each other as we walk through our marriages and motherhood in fellowship and grow in our faith and intimate relationship with Christ together.

Do I Need Discipleship? (Spiritual Mentoring)

It is innate within Christians that as believers, we are constantly looking to gain greater depth, to know Jesus more, and to crave intimacy with Him. We are always seeking after His own heart. And while it is true that we can absolutely pursue God independently, we were made for relationships. He chose us as the Body of His followers as a means to encourage, challenge and equip each other towards Him. In Ephesians 4:11-13, Paul writes “Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ (NIV).

It is simple: we need each other. We need community. We need discipleship.

Unlike business mentoring, discipleship or spiritual mentoring is interested in the process of the formation of disciples in Christ with ever increasing understanding and love for God and His Word. The primary focus of spiritual mentoring is to point you to Jesus Christ and all of His wisdom within the Bible. Jesus taught that discipleship is a call to die, and Galatians reminds us of that. We must completely deny ourselves, pick up our cross daily, and follow Him. “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).

As your mentor, I am willing to walk through the process of discipleship with you. I will keep you focused on Jesus so that you can grow and be challenged in your walk to grow in your faith and knowledge of God’s Word. The goal is to deepen your relationship with Christ in a way that you build your life around Him, and fully live out your faith.

You will be held accountable to Godly living. The truth that you need to hear rather than what you would choose to will be spoken, but it will be delivered with love, grace and the desire to truly see growth. With that being said, I am a human being as well. This means that I am not perfect, and I am also growing and learning to become more like Christ as well. I am still, and will always be, growing in my faith and surrendering to God daily. Emulating Jesus is hard. Sometimes we go through seasons or circumstances that beat us down, and we give in to our fleshly desires, temptation and sinful nature. But having a true friend and sister in Christ who has walked through a similar season can be comforting to help keep our eyes ahead while we seek to live out our faith intentionally and freely.

What is Biblical Literacy?

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 [ESV])

It is a given that as a culture and society overall, there is a high emphasis placed on the importance of academic intelligence, but what we have greatly ignored or forgotten is the necessity of Biblical literacy.

According to some recent research done by Lifeway, approximately 4 out of 5 Christians rarely ever read their Bibles. It is simple: If we don’t read and apply our Bibles, the Devil wins. Biblical literacy is essential for any Christian; we cannot faithfully serve as a follower and emulate Jesus if we do not know Him.

So, what IS Biblical literacy? Why does it matter?

Being literate requires someone to be able to put the basic skills of reading and writing into practice in order to function effectively in society. In other words, reading and writing are tools, whereas literacy is the ability to interpret, analyze, properly communicate, and then proceed to apply the information.

Biblical literacy is fully knowing the content of the Bible; the redemptive story of God, and the eternal hope He has promised to those who believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is more than knowing the Bible stories- it is understanding the Bible well enough to apply it and live it out daily.

Biblical literacy is a process, and it comes from steadfastly seeking after God’s own heart and the wisdom of His word. By reading, studying, praying, meditating, and seeking trusted references to guide us in truly understanding the Bible, we can truly live out our faith. Deeply knowing God’s word is critical in having an intimate relationship with Him, serving Him, and being a disciple.

“But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete” (Luke 6:49 [NIV]). Failing to prioritize Biblical literacy in our lives will inherently prioritize the secular and temporal things of this earth, fail to equip us, and send us into battle with armor and weapons that will fail. The only thing that will truly stand undefeated is Christ.

How do I become Biblically literate?

Quick Guide:

Read and then record the Bible chapter, passage, or verse you are studying. (I prefer to use a designated journal for this).

Explore the passage further by looking for cross-references within the Bible, read other translations, look at an interlinear concordance, find trusted commentaries, sermons, etc. Take the time to define any unknown words, find the historical context and genre, and really understand the content of the passage and its relation to the story of Scripture as a whole.

A note on commentaries: if you have a study bible, the notes at the bottom are commentary. You can also find many free online commentaries and translations at biblestudytools.com, biblegateway.com, blueletterbible.org, netbible.org, and studylight.org. Most of these commentary sites also offer a free app you can download onto your phone. (I also personally recommend the printed Charles Spurgeon study Bible, and the online Enduring Word commentary.)

Apply what you have read in relation to what it tells you about God and His attributes. Consider what the passage tells you about being a child of God, too.

Now practice & live it out. Sometimes it is very clear after studying our Bibles what God is calling us to do. Other times we may not be very sure at all. Pray about it, and honestly try to ask God what He wants you to do, and do it. “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says” (James 1:22).
